Brother Printhead Clogs MFC-J410 - Hyperclean Mode!

There's a more powerful printhead cleaning function for Brother inkjet printers. We tried this out with an MFC-J410 today that would not print black at all and it worked great. Press the buttons, black, then menu and then zero quickly (not simultaneously, but sequentially). Then type in 76 and start. This will kick the printer into a super clean mode. After the cleaning is done. Go to the regular menu, ink and then print the print quality page.

Printer firmware updates

Printer firmware updates. It all starts when you get an innocent message on your screen...Do you want to update the firmware on your printer? Oh well sure OK. So, you take the time to do it and you have no idea what you gained from doing it. But it could be worse than that...you could actually stand to lose by updating your printer's firmware. A key purpose of firmware upgrades these days is to lock you in to using only new branded original manufacturer's product (OEM cartridges). And they're super expensive. Once you perform the update it's irreversible! So, before you hit the OK...I'll upgrade button, smack your own hand so you can save $$$ by continuing to buy refills! Lexmark and Samsung users especially. If you've already experienced this, call us. There's a good chance we can find a new printer for the same price that you're going to have to pay for brand new cartridges! You don't have to go there. We're here to help. 804-237-6844

Troubleshooting Brother Inkjet LC-51 LC-61

Several have had trouble installing the Brother LC-51 and LC-61 cartridges this week. It comes in waves. Things to know....The LC-61 black cartridge can be used in place of the LC-65 cartridge, but the cartridges are two different sizes. If the cartridge case or size looks different than what you're used to, don't sweat it. Just make sure you push the cartridge in until it clicks in place. If you don't click it in place the printer won't recognize the cartridge. As far as the LC-51 goes, we're not sure how this happens, but we've had to fish out a few cartridges that were installed upside down. Check out the arrows on the side of the cartridge, they point the way.

Tech Note for the Day 08-19-09

Just starting this blog...I'm going to address real customer questions in hopes that I help a few people along the way. Today's question had to do with Brother laser printers. Most people are used to replacing just the toner cartridge in any laser printer...and that toner cartridge has the drum unit embedded in it. Brother does it a little differently. The toner cartridge and the drum unit are two separate pieces. The two pieces slide out of the printer as a unit, you hit a little lever on the side of the drum unit and the toner cartridge should lift out. So, most of the time you will be replacing just the toner cartridge. But, the drum life is not infinite, it has to be replaced as well. Usually a light on the printer will indicate that it is time to replace the drum. Usually, you can through 4-6 toner cartridges before the drum needs to be replaced.

As always, check us out at...www.cwrichmond.com.
