Troubleshooting Brother Inkjet LC-51 LC-61

Several have had trouble installing the Brother LC-51 and LC-61 cartridges this week. It comes in waves. Things to know....The LC-61 black cartridge can be used in place of the LC-65 cartridge, but the cartridges are two different sizes. If the cartridge case or size looks different than what you're used to, don't sweat it. Just make sure you push the cartridge in until it clicks in place. If you don't click it in place the printer won't recognize the cartridge. As far as the LC-51 goes, we're not sure how this happens, but we've had to fish out a few cartridges that were installed upside down. Check out the arrows on the side of the cartridge, they point the way.

Tech Note for the Day 08-19-09

Just starting this blog...I'm going to address real customer questions in hopes that I help a few people along the way. Today's question had to do with Brother laser printers. Most people are used to replacing just the toner cartridge in any laser printer...and that toner cartridge has the drum unit embedded in it. Brother does it a little differently. The toner cartridge and the drum unit are two separate pieces. The two pieces slide out of the printer as a unit, you hit a little lever on the side of the drum unit and the toner cartridge should lift out. So, most of the time you will be replacing just the toner cartridge. But, the drum life is not infinite, it has to be replaced as well. Usually a light on the printer will indicate that it is time to replace the drum. Usually, you can through 4-6 toner cartridges before the drum needs to be replaced.
